What Cat is this? A Problem-Based Lesson for

Task
You and your friends are hiking in the forest, when all of a sudden you encounter a very large cat. Your class has just completed an investigation using the inquiry process in Science. You and your friend decided to conduct an investigation to determine the type of cat you saw. At the end of this project, you should have a page in the class power point presentation. Upon completion of your project, you will be scored on a rubric.
What type of cat do you predict you saw? Do you think you are able to find a picture of the cat you saw in the forest?

Procedure
Student Steps
1. Using the picture of the animal you and your partner have been given by your teacher, develop a question to help you determine the type of cat you saw in the forest. Make a prediction of the the type of animal you saw.
2. Go to delicious.com/fbreeze and find the cat you were given by your teacher.
3. During your search, find and copy two pictures for your power point presentation.
4. Open the power point template. Next, copy then paste your pictures onto the template.
5. Meet with the teacher to determine if you have completed all part of the project.
Teacher Procedures
1. Introduce/Review the vocabulary words: hypothesis and prediction.
- present the slide show and go over the points for the assessment, and show a visual model of outcome. wild cats.ppt
2.Give each pair of students a picture of a large cat. Help each group develop a question and hypothesis.
3. Display the web site delicious.com on a screen for students to view.
4. Help students go to the Web site as needed.
5. Demonstrate how to use the website.
6. Assist any students that may need help searching, copying, and pasting pictures of wild cats.
