A Problem-Based Lesson for 1/2 Grade

Task
This morning on your way to school, what kinds of birds did you see or hear? What color were they? What size? What were they doing? This morning we are going to go on a bird watching hike to see what birds live here by STAR School. First, lets make a list of the birds we already know about that live here. As we learn about different kinds of birds, we will create an computer page to show our friends and family what birds we are learning about.

Procedure
First day For Students ·Introduction of project / Native Birds. ·Open discussion ·List common birds as whole class. ·Common knowledge of those birds.
Second day For Students ·Open discussion of new information. ·Nature hike. ·List common birds seen. ·Common knowledge of those birds. ·Start science journal.
Third day For Students ·What would you would to know about this bird. ·What birds interests them. ·Research that bird. ·Draw pictures of the bird. ·Write new info. In science journal.
Second Week for Students ·Introduction of wikiproject with Native Birds. ·Open discussion ·List ideas as a whole class. ·Write in science journals of weekend observations
Third Week for Students ·Divide into four groups. ·Brainstorm on the bird / web ·Worksheet on bird. Bird research.doc ·Write in science journals /recap information.
Fouth Week for Students ·Introduction of Wiki website. ·Create and add information as groups through out the week. ·Scan Artwork. ·Collect more data. ·Write in science journals /recap information.
Fifth Week for Students . ·Create and add information as groups through out the week. ·Share with the community / parents. ·Collect more data / traditional relationship. ·Write in science journals /recap information.
Sixth Week for Students ·Finish Wiki website. ·Add any last research. ·Open the forum to the parent to add blogs. ·Recap with students and have a peer grading to assess each other.
